As Students with higher motivation you also have higher expectation. Chef Skills +Plus will fulfil and exceed those expectations.
The first year of Chef Skills +Plus training is filled with intensive practical and theoretical skill development. You will be confronted with all units of Certificate III. Supportive training and practical skill development is delivered to you in “life” training kitchens. You will learn all Chef Skills +Plus standard recipes and produce your own individual recipe database. The recipes database is covering all relevant elements as seen in the National training package. This is a reliable resource and the backbone of skills+plus training program.

Start your future with the (10) skills + plus advantages
(1)+ Plus - certificate III received and assessed in your first year of training

You enter the program straight from high school (preference but not limited to) and receive all units of competency from Certificate III in commercial cookery. This qualification is essential to get the trade qualification as chef/cook with Skills +Plus within 3 Years instead of the 4 year apprenticeship. Certificate III is also the entry requirement for further education like diploma or advanced diploma in hospitality.

(2)+Plus - 20 weeks trainings kitchen

Chef Skills +Plus will train you in a la carte service and all associated aspects of a professional kitchen. A set of professional standard recipes will be repeatedly trained until competency is reached. You will develop recipes and establish your very own recipe database.

(3)+Plus - up to 20h p week paid work while studying

Beside the 20 hours of skills +Plus school training you will have 15 hours paid work in hospitality.
This work will not only train you in basic kitchen hand duties but is also paying for the Chef skills +Plus training. This left you with no financial burden or outstanding fees; in fact you will have some pocket money for you to spend.

(4)+Plus - crossover skills like bakery – butchery - patisserie

Crossover skills meant, you have the opportunity to work several weeks,- and learn skills from butcher, bakery, patisserie, and other food producers within the skills +Plus program.
You can choose the crossover sessions pending on your interests; they can also be delivered in year 2 and 3 of the program. This will give you access to a wide range of food related skills.

Year 1 conclusion:
By the end of year one all the “paperwork” is done. The next 2 years you can focus and concentrate on practical skills; you are encouraged to search and seize any opportunity to cook and collect skills and recipes from different chefs and venues.



Year 2 and 3 - professional skill development

Here is the opportunity for you to create a huge advantage and kick-start your career in a successful future. No strings attached, all paperwork done and time wise free. You are now in charge to improve your skills.

(5)+Plus - 2 years paid work in a variety of cafes and restaurants of your choice

Here is your great opportunity to work in a variety of commercial kitchen with cuisine and food style of your choice; temporary or seasonal, interstate and also overseas work is possible. This is skills +Plus training is also in fever of businesses because you have no other time commitments (school is finished) and you can be rostered at any time you like.
Skills +Plus is recommending 4 to 6 month jobs session in different cafes, pubs and speciality restaurants. Find your favourite cuisine and food style and master your skills in this field. Most importantly enjoy work.

(6) +Plus - self selected time frame for your skills development

You choice to work in kitchen of your interests as short or as long as you enjoy the learning experience; learn from so many chef as possible. Nothing wrong with starting work in a good pub kitchen with deep frying to learn high volume cooking and busy docket handling. Now work in cafes as cold larder or in Italian restaurants. Extend your knowledge in desserts- breakfast- or function kitchen. Then move forward to your favourite kitchen style, learn and cook every day at work, - and at home.
The opportunity to “import’ skills from interstate and even overseas is real. After 2 years of “cheffing around” you will be able to finish the skills +Plus program with a professional skill set of your own.

(7) +Plus - final RTO training in preparation for skills council assessment

You will display 2 years of work experience to chef skills +Plus and obtain your final theory training including some practical advice for the final skills council assessment.

(8)+ Plus - trade qualification as cook / chef

Year 2 and 3 conclusion: You have received the Skills + Plus training and a wide range of generic kitchen skills and gained the trade qualification as chef/cook. Now the doors are open to explore the kitchens of the world. Go swiftly into professional speed and routine, start serious cooking.
Trade qualification and Certificate III is also your entry ticket for further education, like diploma or advanced diploma in hospitality.
